First Visit to the N.C State Fair 2018

The N.C State Fair was in town!
What's more "fall" then going to the fair?
Andy and I haven't been in YEARS and Hensley has never been.

We went the first weekend they were open in hopes to avoid the really big crowds.

Luckily for us the state fair isn't too very far from our house, about an hour drive!

Going in we knew Hensley wouldn't ride any of he rides. I was hoping to convince him to at least jump on the ferris wheel, but that was a no go.
He was most excited about the games and all the huge prizes, Andy was most excited about the food!

Andy was "hangry" so the first stop was food!!! There is so much to try at the fair and after this trip I know it's a very good plan to look over all the vendors and hatch an plan as to what to eat and where they are in the fair beforehand.

I didn't get to take a ton of photos at the fair because there was just so much to see and do!
We ate a ton of food! Deep fried Klondike bar, deep fried cinnamon rolls, turkey legs, kabobs, and gyros just to name a few! We had to grab cotton candy, candy apples and caramel apples on the way out the door for a treat on the way home!

The games were a big attraction for Hensley. He was mesmerized by the huge stuffed animals and the prizes that could be won.

Hensley isn't use to NOT being able to beat a game. He can usually stand back, watch a few others play and master it in no time. The fair was quite a difference experience for him. He quickly realized that these games were very tricky and not designed to let you win. He walked away from several angry and with no prize. We tried several attempts and many dollars to win a coveted stuffed animal as a trophy that we did indeed out smart the carnies.
Success was found at three out of the 20 games we played. He was pretty stoked to walk away with a giant stuffed Mr. BeeCee's, a stuffed owl for his Granny, and a stuffed pug which made it all worth it.

Another great thing about the state fair is all the agricultural displays. It really can be a great educational tool. There were huge tents full of livestock and crops.
There were tons of displays of those who won blue ribbons for the perfect watermelon or sweet potato, but the most fun were the ones that weren't quite so perfect!

There were also displays showcasing the largest melons and pumpkins! The largest pumpkin there was 1550 pounds!!!

My favorite part...the PIGS!!

This visit to the fair was really awesome. We went early, avoided the big crowds and had a blast.
We learned several things for next year though. I definitely want to go at night next time, and plan out what we will eat and where they are located. I also want to experience some of the shows next time that we were unaware you needed to prepurchse tickets for.

At the end of the day we had a blast! It was a great experience for us!

I almost forgot....there was a booth set up selling t-shirts there and Hensley noticed right away that they were selling Fortnite personalized shirts.  Of course he had to have one!!!
